MMMM: Mindfulness, Meditation and Mental health May- is a month of quotes, books and (sometimes unexpected) resources to reflect on, to help have a happier, more mindful life.
Regular book reviews will continue on Fridays.
Quote of the Day:
“The best remedy for those who are afraid, lonely or unhappy is to go outside, somewhere where they can be quiet, alone with the heavens, nature and God. Because only then does one feel that all is as it should be and that God wishes to see people happy, amidst the simple beauty of nature.” — Anne Frank
Resource of the day:
… is a forest.
Nature is one of the best resources we have for finding peace, and maintaining happiness. This is something that has always seemed intuitive to me- the stillness, the beauty, the colours and patterns… nature has always been something that brings joy.
And there are actually studies that back me up in this. In Japan, there is a tradition of ‘forest bathing’- the practice of going into a forest for some time and doing not much. You don’t go for a purposeful hike and exercise; you just meander where you feel, and appreciate the forest. They have done some interesting studies that show benefits on the mental state, blood pressure and immune system, and have been looking at what exactly it is that beings these benefits. I don’t really feel the need to know what does it- as I just love nature generally.
